COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - We are one week away from the Youth of the Year event put on by the Boys and Girls Club of the Chattahoochee Valley. As a partner with the non-profit, WTVM is giving you a look at all seven teen finalists for this award.

One of them is ready to get his motor running. Shaw High School junior Jalen Scott has his driver's license, but nothing to drive yet. He still loves cars, and calls that one of his hobbies.

"Everything about cars, working with them, looking at them, finding out how fast they go,” Scott said.

The Boys and Girls Club quickly became a big part of his life, and he’s been involved there for more than six years now.

Leaders at the clubs are helping to focus his future, like where Scott will go to school next.

"It's shown me different ways, different career paths... I've got to tour campuses of different colleges,” Scott told us.

Shocked when he got nominated for Youth of the Year, the Shaw soccer player really likes to help people. The self-proclaimed military brat and ROTC member eventually hopes to do the same in the military.

"I haven't made up my mind yet. My mom was in the Air Force, of course she's putting me that way and I do like the Navy too,” Scott said.

Be sure to tune in every day to News Leader 9 at 5:30, where we will feature each teen finalist for the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year award.
