COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Around 21 local students got the chance to learn about homelessness on Friday as a part of United Way’s seventh annual youth camp.

The camp teaches seventh graders four priorities including basic needs, income, health and education.

United Way says they hope to educate younger students about how to combat these issues in our area.

Terri Parodi with United Way says it's important to let our youth know that they can make a difference.

It's an opportunity to engage seventh graders from area schools and they learn about what are the needs in our community. They also find out at their young age how they can make difference," Parodi said.

The camp was sponsored by Aflac, and 12 middle schools within the Muscogee County School District were in attendance.
