COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – There were 80 local fifth graders who received a lesson in health on Friday.

Clubview Elementary's Partner in Education, Columbus Regional Health hosted a Health Leadership Academy for students of Clubview.

Students participated in what is called the "teddy bear clinic."

The clinic was an immersive activity for students to learn about the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of pediatric illnesses and diseases.

Mary Johnson with Columbus Regional says it's important for kids to learn about health at an early age.

"One of the things is when we have patients come in there is a lot trepidation. One of the great roles of this is for kids to come and be excited about health care. So in the event they are treated at one of our facilities there is less trepidation,” Johnson said.
