COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

On Monday morning, the Black History Observance Committee hosted the annual Black History Breakfast at the Columbus Trade Center.

Community leaders host the annual event celebrating black history with proceeds benefiting local charities.

Co-chairman Teddy Reese spoke with us about how important black history is to America and Columbus.

"Black history is not just about African Americans,” Reese said. “Black History is about America as a whole so when we can come together and have a wonderful breakfast and a wonderful conversation, it's great moving Columbus forward."

The committee, led by Congressman Sanford Bishop, has hosted the breakfast since 1986.
