COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Bruxism is something millions of people do in their sleep and do not even realize it.

Doctor Paula Walker-King from Columbus State University stopped by News Leader 9 Morning to tell us about this health condition.

Bruxism is the habitual grinding of the teeth primarily at night.

Teeth grinding can be caused by:

-stress

-suppressed anger

-abnormal alignment of the teeth

-complication from another neurological disorder

In most instances, dentists are the first to notice teeth grinding and the damage-wear it causes. A mouth guard is the most common treatment for teeth grinding.
