ATLANTA, GA (WTVM) -

A Georgia death row inmate is set to die Wednesday evening after the state Board of Pardons and Paroles denied his request for clemency Tuesday.

Travis Clinton Hittson, 45, was sentenced to death for the 1992 murder of fellow Navy crewman Conway Utterbeck in Houston County.

Hittson, who was 20 years old at the time, was convicted of robbing and beating Utterbeck before sawing the body into pieces and burying it.

Another Navy crewman was also convicted in the murder and is serving a life sentence.

Lawyers for Hittson argued that he deserves mercy and is very remorseful for his actions.

Hittson is scheduled to die by lethal injection on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
