Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year: Finalist Makaylah Robinson

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - When she's not at school, she's at the Boys & Girls Club, and now, Makaylah Robinson hopes to be named the organization's Youth of the Year in Columbus at a special event this week.

Life is a dance for Makaylah Robinson. She teaches moves to others at the two places she spends most of her time after school - the Boys & Girls Club of the Chattahoochee Valley and church.

"I dance at my church, over the little kids that dance at our church. Sometimes, I sing in the youth choir,” Robinson said.

Raised in church, this Youth of the Year finalist also has attended Boys & Girls Clubs since she was 4 years old. The now 16-year-old Carver High School junior has fun and is also productive at the club.

"We do homework first then move to the kitchen, serve lunches and do activities,” she told us.

Makaylah already has plans to meet her future goals - go to college, major in mathematics, and become an accountant - but until she can do your taxes, this teen says she's ready to help anyway she can.

"I have a heart for people, I love people, and I'm always there if anybody needs me. Anybody that doesn't need me, they can reach out and talk to me about anything,” Robinson said.

Be sure to tune in Wednesday and Thursday to WTVM news at 5:30 where we will feature the final 2 teen finalists for this award that will be given at an event this Thursday night, being emceed by News Leader 9 anchor Jason Dennis.
