AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - People in Auburn laced up their running shoes for a great cause on Saturday.

More than 500 people took part in the 2016 Shamrock 5k. It's the 23rd year the Kappa Delta sorority has hosted this event. The goal is to bring awareness and raise money for child abuse prevention.

“This is one of our national philanthropies. It's something we have always had near and dear to our hearts. This is something that we feel we can get the community involved in what we are doing here at Auburn and really make a difference in Lee County,” Olivia Whatley said, a member of Kappa Delta.

80 percent of the proceeds raised will stay local benefiting special delivery in Lee County.
