COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Community members in Muscogee County came together to "build a village" Tuesday evening as they discussed behavior of school students and the roles of parents in their lives.

The focus of the Building a Village forum was getting parents to the table to talk about some of the issues they were facing and what support they need.

Muscogee County school officials including Superintendent Dr. David Lewis participated in the discussion, which was hosted by the Southern Anti-Racism Network.

“I have kind of answered that call so that we're bringing people together in the spirit of grassroots community organizing in order to be able to make the change that we want to see,” said Theresa El-Amin, regional director of SARN.

Organizers also say the overall goal for these events is to provide support for all students’ academic and support services.

Additionally they want to provide early childhood learning opportunities, teacher quality, retention and support.
