COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Big things are happening for the Muscogee County School District in 2017.
A new fine arts and performing academy is set to hold its groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday.
The academy was funded from the 2003, 2009 and 2015 SPLOST, and the estimated cost of the school is a total of $36 million.
"We have to say thank you to the tax payers because without the tax payers this school would not be possible, Valerie Fuller says, Director of Communications with the school district.
The school will be open for middle and high school including grades sixth through twelfth grade.
The program is competitive to enroll because students will have to audition and have a portfolio.
It is expected to open around July 31, 2017, and it will be located at 1700 Midtown Drive near the Muscogee County Public Education Center.
