Child cruelty suspect in court

A wanted child cruelty suspect captured by Columbus police earlier this week makes his first court appearance Thursday.

Police say they found his three small children roaming the street partially clothed and unsupervised in early February.

Hakeem Webster pleaded "not guilty" to three felony counts of child cruelty Thursday despite an investigator testifying about the horrific living conditions of his children.

Webster's two; three and four year old children are now in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Police also say syringes were found within reach of the children.

Webster admitted to police that he and the children's mother needs help for their addiction to crystal meth and cocaine.

Webster was given a $15,000 bond.

His case will be bound over to superior court.
