COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Just about everybody loves Girl Scout cookies and now several Columbus area restaurants are challenged to turn the savory treats into something even tastier.

Friday kicked off National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, a celebration of the fun and excitement girls have selling Girl Scout Cookies.

As part of the celebration local restaurants are also participating in the second annual Girl Scout Cookie Culinary Competition.

The competition, which runs through the weekend, is a chance for the restaurants to take Girl Scout cookies and use them to come up with a sweet or savory dish.

Customers at the seven participating restaurants will have the chance to vote on their favorite offering throughout the weekend.

"I thought it was actually pretty clever and cool because you don't really think of anything else than Girl Scout cookies as just cookies and having the different desert was a cool twist on it,” said Girl Scout Ambassador Libby Warren.

The seven participating restaurants are Café LeRue, Cerrones Brick Oven Pizzeria, Freeze Frame Yogurt Shoppe, Locos Grill & Pub, Richelle's Bakery, the Black Cow and Wood Stone Restaurant. Customers may vote on their favorite creation at www.gshg.org.

National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend will give girls from the Columbus area a chance to show off their cookie-selling skills by participating in booth and door-to-door sales.
