COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Varicose veins are a cosmetic concern for many people, but in some cases they can also be a sign of a higher risk for other circulatory problems.

Dr. Paula Walker-King from Columbus State University says that varicose veins are enlarged, looking gnarled in appearance. They are responsible for sending blood back to the heart.

Caused by standing or sitting for a large period of time, any vein in the body may become varicose. The legs and feet are more susceptible.

You can treat varicose veins by:

-exercising

-avoid standing/standing for an extended period of time

-wear compression stockings

-sclerotherapy
