RANDOLPH COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The remains of a man found in the Tallapoosa River have been identified as a man missing since mid-January.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the remains of Lamar Allen Putnam, 79, of Carrollton, were found on Feb. 28 by a couple on the river.

His identity was confirmed through dental records by the Alabama Department of Forensics Sciences Medical Examiner's Office.

Putnam was last seen on Jan. 16 at his Carrollton home. His vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer was also found parked under the Tallapoosa River Bridge on Hwy. 431, near Cleburne County.

Putman had dementia and was the subject of a Mattie's call when he first disappeared.

"Please keep this family in your prayers as they deal with the death of their loved one," the Facebook post said.

The case is currently being investigated by the SBI in Alabama.
