COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Gentian Elementary in Columbus wanted to make sure their student understand how the election process works.

On Tuesday the fifth grade class got an in depth lesson about voting ballots and what's at stake with today's primary elections. Teachers say getting their student well informed about the entire process from an early age is very important.

"They are 10 and 11 years old. In six or seven years they will be electing the leaders of our country. And I think you need to be educated to make a good choice for our country,” Debbie Thaxton said, fifth grade teacher at Gentian Elementary.

Teachers also talked about the history of the two political parties in the United States and the history of Super Tuesday.
