LADONIA, AL (WTVM) -

The Phenix City Police Department arrested two people after a high-speed chase that ended with the driver attempting to run over an officer.

Phenix City Police units were responding to a call on Highway 80 West in the Ladonia, AL area involving a possible assault with a firearm on Tuesday, March 1 at about 7:15 p.m.

The victim reported that the suspect had left the scene in a silver or grey colored compact vehicle. A Phenix City Police Officer responding in the area of the call observed a vehicle fitting the description, and attempted to stop the vehicle for investigation.

The suspect refused to stop, leading to a high speed pursuit from Highway 80 West through residential neighborhoods to Auburn Road where the suspect’s vehicle crashed.

After the officer directed the suspect to exit the vehicle, the suspect put his vehicle in reverse, and sped backwards at the officer.

The officer fired two shots into the vehicle, and the suspect again crashed his vehicle into the officers’ patrol car. At that point the suspect and passenger surrendered, and were taken into custody.

The driver, 31-year-old Allen Shiver, is charged with first degree attempted assault, possession of a controlled substance, first degree criminal mischief, attempting to elude law enforcement, and several traffic violations.

The passenger, 39-year-old Angela Nevels, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Both offenders were booked into the Russell County Jail without injury.

The case remains under investigation by the Phenix City Police Department.
