Pace Academy used a 12-0 opening run to propel the Knights to a 65-43 win over Manchester in the GHSA Class AA boys championship game on Friday night at the Macon Coliseum.
Wendell Carter led the way for Pace (20-10) with 30 points and 20 rebounds, while guard Barrett Baker scored nine of the points in that initial flurry, winding up with 16 points.
Manchester (25-6) battled back in the second half after trailing by 19 points. The Blue Devils put together a 10-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to single digits, but 49-40 would be as close as they would get.
“I'm very proud of my guys,” Manchester head coach Curtis Noble said. “We were in for a fight tonight and they continued to play when we were down. I'm very proud of them for that.
“Outstanding season,” Noble added. “That's what I just told my guys, keep their heads up because we had an outstanding season. They started to believe and played together, and hard work got us here.”
The loss snapped Manchester’s 20-game winning streak.
Demarcus Addie led the with 14 points, the only Blue Devils player in double figures.
