(WTVM) – An Alabama lawmaker is asking for convicted pedophiles to be surgically castrated.

Representative Steve Hurst (R- District 35) filed HB 365 on March 3.

According to the bill, it would require offenders convicted of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 12 to be surgically castrated before their release from prison.

Hurst says the offender must be 21 or older and must pay for the surgical procedure themselves.

The bill will be assigned to the Alabama House of Representatives judicial committee. You can see the bill here. You can keep up with the bill's track by clicking here
