DEVELOPING: Police arrest 1 in high-speed chase in Opelika

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - The Opelika Police Department has arrested one person in a high-speed chase in Opelika on Tuesday. 

The high-speed chase happened in Tiger Town in Opelika, near Gateway Drive around 1:20 p.m. CST. The chase lasted around 30 minutes. 

Tallassee Chief of Police Jimmy Rodgers confirmed with our sister station WSFA that the car was stolen last Thursday from Carville Auto Mart. 

According to witness Dean Spratlin, he saw the vehicle being pursed by police coming into the parking lot of the Lowe's Home Improvement, located at 1701 Frederick Road in Opelika. Spratlin says the car nearly crashed before exiting the parking lot and getting on to I-85 N. 

Captain Shane Healey with the Opelika Police Department confirmed that one suspect has been placed in police custody and the vehicle has been recovered on Spring Hill Court in Opelika. 

Two more suspects escaped from the car after it crashed into a light pole on Spring Hill Court and they are considered armed and dangerous. 

The suspect who was taken into custody had a warrant out for attempted murder not associated with this chase. 

The lock down at Carver Primary has been lifted and students are being released at this time.
