COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - An English teacher at Shaw High School is getting students ready for a special day that happens later this week.
It's called Suited and Booted and it involves teaching young men the proper way to dress for important social or professional events.
We think it's a great idea that deserves recognition.
English teacher Parise Bailey says he came up with Suited and Booted - which is both an old and new expression for being smartly dressed - after he saw some students improperly attired for a football banquet.
He decided the young men needed to be taught that clothes do indeed make the man.
This year’s suited and booted is getting help from partners in education, a joint program started in 1987 by the Columbus Chamber and the Muscogee County School District.
Partners in education matches local businesses with local schools, with volunteers dedicated to helping our young people learn what it takes in the real world to make a brighter future for themselves.
Knowing how to dress properly gives young people confidence in new or challenging situations.
Suited and Booted is really about teaching our kids how to clothe themselves in that confidence.
All it takes is someone like Bailey and the Partners in Education to encourage kids to care about the image they present, so their true potential can shine through.
