COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

More than 1,000 students from Muscogee County got a chance to explore future careers on Friday.

The first annual Let's Grow STEAM Youth Exploratory and Career Expo showed Chattahoochee Valley students the exciting careers available in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

Organizers explained why this means so much to the students.

“STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math but here at Let's Grow STEAM,  we believe that it's beyond just STEAM so today we are providing students with the opportunity to meet and dialogue with professionals in the area of STEAM,” said gifted science teacher Leshan Ferguson.

More than 40 employers discussed careers, conducted hands-on demonstrations and showcased real-world applications in STEAM careers for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
