College students give back to community during Spring Break

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Some college kids went to the beach for their spring break, but others decided to use their off time to make a difference in someone else's life.

Students from Columbus State University and Columbus Technical College are taking part in the Habitat for Humanity's 2016 Collegiate Challenge.

They'll be using their spring break time to build a house for an area family.

Columbus Tech started on Saturday, March 12 with a yard sale, with funds benefiting the project.

"Normally with the collegiate challenge, it’s from the international side versus the local side of Habitat for Humanity, so this year this is their first time completing it with local schools,” said program director Crystal Wave. “It feels good to give back and be able to see what we can do in our own community."

Columbus State students will begin working on the project on Monday.
