Residents learn to recognize signs of child sex abuse

Fountain City residents gathered at the Columbus Library on Thursday to learn what they can do to help prevent one of the most disturbing crimes that occur within a community.

Citizens at the Prevent Now Community Awareness Workshop were taught how to recognize the signs of sexual abuse and what they can do to help.

The goal of the event is to create community awareness on how to prevent, recognize and respond responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Attendees were addressed by Dr. Brett Murphy-Dawson, a double board-certified child adolescent and adult psychiatrist.

“A workshop that trains adults on how to provide a healthy and safe community for children, preventing sexual abuse,” Dr. Murphy-Dawson said.

The workshop was presented as part of an outreach effort of Fourth Street Baptist Church.
