A local filmmaker is gaining statewide recognition for the impact of one of his latest films.

Columbus-based filmmaker Ty Manns was honored this week with a resolution at the Georgia State Capitol acknowledging the impact of his film "The Wish," which focuses on organ donations in the African American community.

The film talks about the need for more organ donations among African Americans and how myths have affected donations.

The film will be available to watch on the Uplift Channel ON DIRECTV. Manns says he's been pleased with the film's influence.

“We toured this film for more than a year now,” Manns said. “Everywhere we go and show it, people come up to me and say, ‘I am going to on organ donor because of the movie.’”

His next film is called “Day 1…Be Strong," which deals with domestic violence and bullying.

It's scheduled to start shooting this summer in Smyna, GA.
