GDOE is under fire for wanting to remove slavery and the Holocaust from its lesson plan

A potential decision by the Georgia Department of Education to remove Slavery and the Holocaust from its 6th grade lesson plan is sparking outrage among parents.

Georgia Social Studies Program Director, Shaun Owen said that after surveying thousands of teachers, a committee decided to make the changes.

Owen said both events would still be taught in multiple grades, but some parents have spoken out against the proposal, saying they feel it’s the equivalent of erasing history.

Public comment for the plan ended a few days ago.

A board will vote on it at the end of the March.
