Blue Devils top Patriots to take sole possession of first in region; LaGrange, Shaw also win

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Columbus Blue Devils scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as they beat the Northside Patriots 6-4 on Tuesday in a game played at Northside’s Patriot Field.

Cason Greathouse had an RBI double, Jack Copley a run scoring single, and Gage Dempsey a sacrifice fly to get the Blue Devils (12-1, 6-1 in 1-AAAAA) off to a flying start.

Greathouse went the distance on the mound, striking out six to earn his seventh win on the season without a loss.

Gage Brown had a home run for Northside (9-4, 5-2), while Drew Haywood added a two-run double.

The win gives the Blue Devils sole possession of first place in the region.

In other games in the area on Tuesday, LaGrange beat Hardaway 3-2 to hand the Hawks their second region loss of the season.

Shaw defeated Pacelli 10-4 in a non-region contest. Andrew Tillery had the big hit for the Raiders, a grand slam in the second inning that gave them a 6-0 lead.
