A Fort Benning solider has died after his Jeep went over the guardrail on Oglethorpe Bridge in Phenix City, Alabama and landed in a tree.
The soldier was identified as 50 year old Thomas Morgan of Hope Hull Alabama, which is located Southwest of Montgomery.
Officials say Morgan was involved in an accident going Westbound on Highway 280 that caused him to go over the bridge.
Morgan's Jeep CJ7 was hit by a Jeep Wrangler that tried to avoid a stopped vehicle on the bridge.
The impact of that incident caused the soldier's Jeep to go over the guardrail, landing into a tree below, about 40 feet above the water.
The make and model of the stopped vehicle is unknown at this time.
Police say they are looking into filing charges in this case, but no decision has been made as of yet.
