(WTVM) – Tuesday was the 43rd Anniversary of troops being taken out of Vietnam and people are remembering those who were lost during the Vietnam War.

A wreath lays at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the nation's capital Wednesday. It was part of the Vietnam Veterans Day which was first established in 2012 to honor all of those who served.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter spoke about those service men who are no longer with us.

“That era's proud Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines and Coast Guardsmen are part of a long line of warriors.”

Over 8 million troops served during the war. As of April 2015 more than 1,600 soldiers remain unaccounted for.
