PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - People came together on Saturday to honor the late Reverend William Boddie Junior at Gaines Chapel AME Church.

Boddie was a long time minister and community leader in Phenix City who spent 57 years ministering in Alabama.

He passed away in October of 2014. Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe was on hand at the event as a guest speaker.

Boddie's daughter says she appreciates that her father's contributions to the community will carry on and his name will be remembered.

“We're able to carry on this legacy, we just love and appreciate the opportunity to carry this legacy on,” Deborah Boddie Birdsong said.

Mayor Lowe also served as the Marshal at a parade followed the commemoration ceremony.

Back in 2014, 10th Street was renamed after the late Reverend Boddie as well.
