A health organization in Columbus hosted its fourth of seven fundraisers on Tuesday night to help raise money for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life.

Gentiva Hospice has been participating in Relay for life for the past 13 years.

This year, they are working even harder to raise more money as a team with seven different fundraisers. Their last was their annual yard sale, which raised nearly $400. The items remaining from the yard sale were donated to charities throughout the Valley.

Tuesday was their first ever Painting for a Purpose fundraiser.  It cost $10 to participate in, and all proceeds go to the American Caner Society.

"Our purpose here is, we have invited a lot of people to come and by donation they have something that is a keepsake to know that they have contributed to wiping out cancer.  We chose the wine glasses because that is something that is fun," said Kim McClenny, a Hospice Specialist.

Gentiva Hospice raised $100 for their team at Tuesday night's fundraiser, and the ladies in attendance enjoyed expressing themselves through painting.

Most importantly, they helped out a cause that affects nearly everyone.

"Naturally we care for people that have been affected by cancer and one of our sayings is that we wish we would never have to admit another cancer patient.  There is hardly anyone personal and certainly with our patients someone has been affected by cancer," said McClenny.

Gentiva Hospice will be hosting two more fundraisers soon. Their next event is Friday April 22 which will be a purse and jewelry sale.

Relay for Life takes place on Friday, April 29 at AJ McClung Memorial Stadium.
