COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A group of Columbus State University students came together Thursday to show their appreciation for those who put their lives on the line for our freedom.

The school's Country Music Association campus based program along with "Team Red White and Blue" held a benefit for military veterans at the CSU Clock Tower.

Students raised the money through sales of pizzas and playing games.

The funds raised will go towards programs designed to help veterans connect with their community through physical and social activity.

“Well initially I was one of the ones that needed help,” said Shane Kiral, Assistant Veteran Outreach Director. “I was not big on the social aspects of things. I had a few friends here on there, but Team RWB has helped me come out of my shell more. Now I am a leader in the organization and I have been able to help others like me.”

This is the first time the event has been held at CSU, and organizers hope to have more benefits in the future.
