OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Runners in Lee County laced up their shoes for a great cause on Saturday.

The Lee County Autism Resource and Advocacy group hosted its third annual autism 5K at the Opelika Courthouse Square.

All proceeds raised on Saturday will help send some kids to camp.

"It is tens of thousands of dollars to you for some of these kids every year for medical expenses for therapies and things and families can't afford an opportunity like camp so we want to provide that for you to the families," said Carly Baum of Lee County Autism Resource and Advocacy.

"It makes you feel like you're not alone and I think that's what is important for a lot of the parents to feel like they have community support and there are a lot of people out there that are willing to help," walk participant Kim Smith said.
