COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - There's less than a month left in the regular season for the NJCAA, and the CVCC Pirates are primed for another potential postseason run.
The team's sitting with a 29-9-1 record and have won those 29 games out of their last 33.
It's quite a hot streak indeed, and it could bode well for the team as the NJCAA prepares to release the new standings on Wednesday. There's plenty of baseball left and right now the ranking isn't their concern. For the pirates, it's about peaking at the right time.
"You don't want the up and down," head coach Adam Thomas said, "but you want that nice steady climb and hopefully it comes to
that crescendo around May 10th."
May 10 is right when the postseason gets going in the NJCAA, and coach Thomas is wanting his guys to continue getting better from now until then.
"Basically just keep on keeping on and trying to get to the next game and don't look ahead because if we look ahead we can d rop a few games and then who knows where we'll end up after that so just try and get hot going into the tournament and that's all he's preaching right now," sophomore outfielder Nolan Greckel said.
His teammates echo that sentiment.
"I think it is just staying hungry and when we come out every day just step on the gas, being ready to play," sophomore pitcher Jordan Lee said. "Just getting to the field every day and being ready to show up and play."
