Give 9 Day Of Service - Brown Bag

WTVM's Give 9 Day Of Services celebrates those doing good for the people around us.

This Quarter, WTVM’s Give 9 Day of Service invites you to help feed the elderly in our community by supporting The Brown Bag of Columbus. The number of elderly falling into poverty is growing and The Brown Bag needs our help to feed those in need. Stay tuned to WTVM News Leader 9 for more information on how our volunteers will help The Brown Bag at a Day Of Service Event.

Brown Bag of Columbus was founded by James Weldy, Director of Interfaith Faith Food Bank, along with representatives from the Area Agency on Aging, Columbus Housing, Columbus Baptist Association, two pastors and two individuals from the community.

The  first location of The Brown Bag was within the Interfaith Food Bank site. Starting n 1990, Rose Hill Baptist Church housed The Brown Bag of Columbus for 14 years. Since 2005, Eastern Heights Baptist Church has allowed The Brown Bag to use space in the building that used to house their child care center years ago. In 2001, The Brown Bag started an additional site in Phenix City and it is held one Saturday a month at First United Methodist Church. The Brown Bag's second site in Columbus opened in 2015, and operates one Wednesday a month at  Holsey Monumental CME Church.
