Northside claims region title in 4-2 win over Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - History was made at Patriots field Friday night as the Northside Patriots claimed their first region title in school history with a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Devils.

"I say proud, but I don't know if that word does it justice," head coach Dee Miller said. "This group has worked hard for it."
Much like their Thursday night game, Friday's showdown wasn't short on excitement.

Northside fell behind 2-0 in the 2nd when a single by Columbus's Tristan Moran brought in a pair of runs. They would come back and tie it in the 4th
when Alex Royal's single brought in two for the Patriots.
Then in the 6th inning, Northside took the lead when Seth Shadix drew a walk with the bases loaded, bringing home the winning run. The next batter,
Chris Heinzelman, hit into a fielder's choice, but Columbus's catcher couldn't reel in the throw, and another run scored.

Sam Kyte closed it out in the 7th inning, and the celebration ensued.

"It feel great," the senior Kyte said. "Once in a lifetime chance."
Northside's region title also clinches home field advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.

Columbus High still has a shot at home field in the first round as well. A strong finish would give them 2nd place in the region.
