COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Although it is spring, it is always a good time of year for football. Saturday morning, True Performance Elite Sports hosted their third annual mini football camp.
The camp features middle school and high school athletes looking to take their talents to the next level.
True Performance works with athletes in addition to their schools to help polish their skills.
"We testing them, we are going to take them for a few drills. And basically we are going to work for them, secondary to their high school. So we are going to
be a second source to help them get to where they need to be and that is the next level," said True Performance founder Brandon Averett.
Saturday's camp was organized similar to the NFL Combine, first the athletes were put through a series of measurable drill: 40 yard dash, three cone drill, standing broad jump and push up test.
This helps True Performance develop a profile complete with statistics of each player.
"What we do here at True Performance is develop a profile and then we reach out to the colleges within ourselves," said Averett.
These profiles are a simple way to present data to a school that may help that specific player get recruited.
True Performance has helped many play at the next level including Tre Samuels, John Broussard, Chris Campbell and Rakeem to name a few. Bryson Allen Williams was once participating at these camps, now he plays Linebacker at South Carolina.
