Fugitive in FL captured in Meriwether Co. on Monday

MERIWETHER COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - A man wanted in Florida was captured and arrested in Meriwether County on Monday.

Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith said that his agency, along with the U.S. Marshal's Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, state troopers and Georgia State Patrol captured Christopher Lee Maag.

Maag, 39, was arrested at a campsite in the 4200 block of Hwy. 54 in Hogansville, GA.

Maag, of Hastings, FL, was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for failure to register as a sex offender in St. John's County, FL. He was also wanted on the charge of sexual assault of a helpless person.

Maag is currently being held in the Meriwether County Jail, pending extradition back to Florida.
