Blue Devils clinch playoff berth

Columbus 4, Hardaway 3

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Blue Devils made a four-run first inning stand to beat the Hardaway Hawks 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Randy Jordan Field. With the win, the Blue Devils clinch a GHSA Class AAAAA playoff berth.

Cason Greathouse and Trent Grantham each had two-run singles to give the Devils the early 4-0 lead. Hardaway scored one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to cut the lead to one, but Grantham shut down in the Hawks in the seventh to save the game for Greathouse, who pitched the first six.

The loss all but ends the Hawks' quest for a playoff berth. Hardaway must win out, home games Thursday against Columbus on Thursday and LaGrange on Friday, and have LaGrange lose a home game Thursday against Harris County, and lose Saturday's regular season wrap-up versus Carver, a team that is winless in region play this season.

Northside has already clinched the region title, with Columbus and Harris County have claimed the other two playoff spots.
