COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Blue Devils clinched home field advantage in the first round of the GHSA playoffs with a 12-4 road win over Hardaway on Thursday.
The Blue Devils (21-5, 13-5 in region) scored six runs in the second inning, and their one hit in the frame didn't even figure in the scoring. Three walks loaded the bases, then an error by the Hawks (12-9, 8-9) allowed two runs to score. A sacrifice fly, two bases loaded walks, and a balk accounted for the other runs.
Columbus batted around again in the third, adding three more runs to take a 9-0 lead.
The loss officially eliminates Hardaway from playoff contention.
Meanwhile, LaGrange beat Harris County 2-0 on Thursday behind a shutout by Jake Howard. The Grangers clinch third in region, while Harris County finishes fourth.
