COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - April is National Car Care Month and local car care experts say a lot of our vehicles could be due for service.
April is the ideal time to check your vehicle for maintenance needs, as experts say many people delay proper safety inspections during the winter months.
A report by the Car Care Council in 2015 indicated that 80 percent of vehicles are in need of service, a new part or repair in the Spring.
The first thing to do is check your vehicle's dashboard to see if the check engine light is on. If it is, you know your car may be due for maintenance.
The Car Care Council held 795 vehicle inspections at 25 sites nationwide in 2015, and found the highest failures in the following areas:
- Low fluid levels, such as washer fluid, engine oil and coolant.
- Clogged or dirty air filters
- Worn belts
- Battery service
- Wiper blade replacement
The results of this study highlight the need for routine vehicle care and maintenance, according to the Car Care Council.
