COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - According to the Columbus Police Department, a man wanted in a Columbus carjacking last week was arrested following a hostage situation on Tuesday.

CPD Major Gil Slouchick said that Shawn Thoman, 26, was arrested around 10 a.m. Slouchick said Thoman was inside a house on 922 42nd St. Both hostage negotiators and the SWAT team responded to that location with arrest and search warrants for Thoman.

When they got there, police say Thoman held a female in her 20's hostage, using a knife.

Negotiators convinced him to release the woman and after a short standoff, they were able to arrest Thoman without incident. The unidentified woman was not hurt.

Thoman was wanted in another crime - a March 15 carjacking at the Walmart on Manchester Expressway. The victim said Thoman allegedly held him at gunpoint as he loaded his groceries into his vehicle and demanded the vehicle.

Major Slouchick also said Thoman was wanted in an unrelated home invasion in mid-April, where a man was shot and his vehicle was also stolen.
