AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Friday night was one to remember for the Auburn Tigers as they swept the area rival Central Red Devils to move into the state semifinals in class 7A.
Game one of the double header was all Auburn, as they hung up nine runs in the third inning in route to a 14 to 1 victory.
Game two was much closer. Central’s Tanner Belcher pitched a great game for the Devils, giving up just a couple of runs before exiting in the seventh.

With the bases loaded, two out, down by two, Bradley Northcutt came through in the clutch. A ground ball to short seemed routine to Evan Baber, but he rushed the throw, allowing two runs to score and tie the game.
Auburn would then win the game in the bottom of the eighth, as Rowdy Jordan hit a pop fly to left that was deep enough to allow Cole Solomon to cross the plate, and the Tigers came from behind to win 5 to 4 and take the series.
"They came ready to play,” head coach Matt Cimo said. “They came back ready to fight because they were disappointed the first time they came here and I think they wanted to show them they're a better team than the first time we came here."
The last time Auburn faced Central, they lost two out of three in the regular season. Just a few weeks ago, Auburn needed Central’s help to even make the playoffs, and now they’ve knocked them out.
"Considering that we were on the bubble for not making the playoffs and then being in the situation in the game,” Northcutt said, “down 4 to 1, a lot of people probably thought we weren't going to win this game, but I knew we could do it. See this team come together like that is just awesome."
The Tigers face McGill-Toolen in the state semifinals. Those games will be next Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.
