COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A local nonprofit organization Overflo outreach Ministries, Inc. is launching a campaign to nominate its president Gerald Riley to receive the Good Neighbor Award during this year's Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards.

In April, the radio host Steve Harvey walked on the treadmill and used other exercise equipment for four hours all while hosting his show every day to raise money for his nonprofit organization.

Gerald thought this was an awesome idea and agreed to do the same with some stipulations. Members of the community who support Overflo Outreach Ministries, Inc. are asked to tag Gerald out and walk a lap or two for him through the day on the treadmill.

The Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards celebrates local businesses, religious organizations, community leaders and high schools from all over the country. Each year they crown winners in 12 unique categories to uplift our neighbors and represent the best of our neighborhoods.

Gerald is also the co-owner and senior barber at Overflo Salon and Barbershop and the president of Columbus Barbers United.

Overflo is known for its ongoing community efforts such as feeding and clothing the homeless, mentoring young boys whom the schools label as at risk, providing free haircuts and a plethora of other activities.

If Gerald wins this round of nominations he will move to round of nominations he will move to round two on June 15, 2016 with the results announced at the show in Las Vegas on July 23.

Nappy Root Barber shop is also nominated to receive the community award.
