(WTVM) – People will be remembering fallen officers and honoring their sacrifices this week (May 15-21) for National Police Week.

So far in 2016, 35 police officers have been killed in the line of duty across the country. According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, two Georgia officers have been killed in the line of duty so far in 2016.

Officers say attacks on police are becoming more frequent and that one death is too many.

National Police Week was established in 1962 to honor law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Click here to read a Presidential Proclamation on Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week 2016.
