COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus man convicted of producing child pornography has learned his fate.

Scott M. Johnson, 50, has been sentenced to serve 360 months (or 30 years) in federal prison followed by supervised release for the rest of his life.

Johnson pleaded guilty to the charge on May 2. In his plea agreement, he admitted that he molested a 6-year-old child on one occasion and recorded his activity with a camera on a tripod.

The investigation revealed that nine computers found in his home contained 11 videos and 584 pictures with identified victims in addition to the pictures of the 6-year-old.

Johnson also admitted that he had been accused of child molestation in the past, but no charges were filed.

“The actions to which this defendant pled guilty today are depraved and despicable. For no other purpose other than his own carnal pleasure, he stole the innocence not only of the child he was molesting but of those portrayed in the videos and photos found on his computers and in his home,” said Acting United States Attorney G.F. “Pete” Peterman.

The case was investigated by the Columbus Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office of Alabama, United States Secret Service, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit.
