(WTVM) – More Americans are planning to hit the road this summer thanks to record low gas prices.
According to the annual travel study conducted by GasBuddy— over 75 percent of people say they would be traveling this summer. A total of 79 percent would be traveling by car.
Record low gas prices are playing a part in the increase of road trips. The current national average of $2.23 per gallon is almost 50 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
People are traveling more for leisure rather than obligation. A total of 53 percent are traveling to relax versus 27 percent seeing family or friends.
