COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - An event sponsored by Headquarter Nissan was held to honor our military veterans.

It was part of a House of Heroes-Chattahoochee Valley Chapter effort. This was the second annual Redeeming the Block completing 23 homes and honoring 23 veterans.

On Saturday, Sergeant First Class Walter Carter and his wife, Bernice Carter got some minor repairs to their home on Joyner Drive.

"This is part of the mission of our church to reach out beyond our walls. We also want to remember those who have served others in our community. We are so blessed to have Fort Benning. This is just a gesture of good gratitude as we head into Memorial Day,” Kathy Tessin said, a volunteer with House of Heroes.

Organizers say the Carter's have been very grateful for all the hard work the volunteers have done to their home.
