COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A woman charged with driving under the influence following a deadly car crash pled not guilty to all of her charges in court on Monday.
Tiffany Fortson, 33, was charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI and numerous other charges. In court, police testified that she was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication.
These charges stem from a car crash that happened on Saturday, May 21 when Fortson's vehicle crashed into 40-year-old Shedrick McClain's motorcycle near the intersection of 13th Street and Wynnton Road. McClain was pronounced dead around 9:30 am at Midtown Medical Center, succumbing to injuries from blunt force trauma.
Police say Fortson failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test. Investigators say she did consent to a blood test that read .118 of alcohol was in her system.
Fortson's bond is set for $20,000 for homicide by vehicle and $500 for DUI. Her case was bound over to superior court.
