Columbus church helps foster children

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – May marks National Foster Care Month and there are more than 500 children in Muscogee County living in foster care, according to officials.

On Sunday, the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church helped meet the needs of those in foster care.

Every four months, the church selects a foster care agency to donate items to the children need.

The fostering Hope Ministry at Fourth Street Church chose Benchmark Family Services as it's agency to assist during the event.

"Foster children often times move from home to home caring items in trash bags. What we like to do is collect gently used luggage. So when I child has to be placed in a new home they will have luggage to place their items in," said LaQuetta Gray, with Fostering Hope Ministry.

If you'd like to help Fourth Street Baptist Church support more foster children, monetary donations and or items are accepted.

You can also call foster agencies directly to find out what items are needed for the children.
