COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - With kids out of school, it's time to get away for a vacation,
However, studies show two-thirds of Americans are planning to stay local for summertime, and a new list puts Columbus somewhat high for "staycations."
Financial company and website WalletHub compared the 150 largest U.S. cities to find the most enjoyable and wallet-friendly staycation places in America.
Columbus ranked 41st overall out of those 150 cities, only beat out in Georgia by Atlanta, which ranks sixth.
The Fountain City has the most parks per capita, according to WalletHub's study, Columbus also ties for first for the most tennis courts per capita, with Norfolk and Richmond in Virginia.
On the downside, WalletHub says Columbus is one of five cities with the fewest coffee and tea shops per capita.
The website also compared all these cities for their swimming pools, public golf courses, ice cream shops, spas, beer gardens, museums, and more.
Overall, Columbus ranked high for recreation – 16th out of 150 cities – but is 106th for food and entertainment and ranked 52nd for rest and relaxation.
In this WalletHub list, two cities in Alabama had an overall rank for staycations higher than Columbus – Birmingham at 30th and Huntsville at 38th. The top 3 were Florida cities with beaches and large amusement parks – Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa.
